On The Road Again...

It's Saturday, April 28, 2018 and we arrived at the Provo MTC (Missionary Training Center) today.  We officially don't start our training until Monday morning.  We left home Friday morning about 7:00 a.m. and drove to Ogden, spent the night and drove into Salt Lake City today. I went shopping at Mr. Mac, a Utah-based clothing store, and bought some slacks and a gray suit.  Sherry and I have been shopping for five months - mostly on Amazon - and now we're ready to go.  At least clothing-wise.

It has been our experience that when senior missionary couples prepare to serve all kinds of interesting things happen in their lives. We had a couple we served with in Russia who had their house burn down a few weeks before they left!  Others had illness and other family issues arise.  Nonetheless, they answered the call and away they went.  We have been impressed with their faith and willingness to serve in the face of whatever happens.

Our experience has had it's share of growth opportunities.  Sherry had shoulder surgery in November, a hysterectomy in February and a root canal last week!  I'm grateful for a companion who is willing to move forward in the face of adversity.  I'll run along behind her and try to keep up.

Tomorrow morning our mission will become real...we'll put on our nametags and head to the cafeteria with a couple of thousand other missionaries and have breakfast.  Most of those missionaries will be considerably younger than we are - but sprinkled among them will be some other gray heads.  We love our fellow senior couples.  We have church at 8:30 a.m. and a few gatherings tomorrow evening.  Monday morning we officially check in and Monday afternoon we start our training.
